Welcome email automation for small businesses
A welcome email is the email new subscribers are most likely to open, so it pays to send it right away, automatically. With Neuctra Mailer you choose a template, switch the welcome email on, and every new subscriber gets it the moment they sign up. Add an automation to follow up days later, all sent from your own email address.
Turn on an automatic welcome email
- 1Create a newsletter in Neuctra Mailer and copy its id.
- 2Design the email from the Welcome starter, or ask the writing assistant for a draft.
- 3Open the newsletter, choose the template under Welcome email and switch it on.
- 4Add people from your signup form with mailer.subscribe(). Each new subscriber is welcomed immediately.
// When someone joins your newsletter
const { alreadySubscribed, welcomeSent } = await mailer.subscribe({
listId: "your-newsletter-id", // from the Newsletters tab
email: form.email,
name: form.name, // optional, fills {{first_name}}
});Build a welcome series with an automation
For more than one email, use an automation with the trigger "Someone joins a newsletter", then add steps: wait, send, wait, send. Waits can be minutes, hours or days, and an automation can have up to 20 steps.
- Right away: welcome and what to expect
- After 2 days: your most useful guide or best seller
- After 5 days: a story about your business or a customer
- After 7 days: a small offer to say thanks
Automate emails from your store or app
Automations can also start from an event: an order, a booking or a trial starting. Connect Shopify, WooCommerce, Zapier, Make or a Google Form with a secret link and no code, or report the event from your own server. Event details such as an order number fill in the email.
// On your server, with the server key
await mailer.track("order.placed", {
email: order.customerEmail,
name: order.customerName,
data: { order_number: order.number }, // fills {{order_number}} in the emails
});What makes a good welcome email?
- Send it immediately, while the person still remembers signing up
- Say thank you and tell them what they'll get and how often
- Use their first name with a fallback, like {{first_name|there}}
- Give one clear next step, with one button
- Keep the unsubscribe link: every Neuctra Mailer marketing email has one
Made for small businesses
Everything sends through the email account you already have, so there is no separate email platform to learn or pay per subscriber for. Welcome emails, templates, campaigns and one automation per service are on the Free plan; Pro adds up to 10 automations per service.
Frequently asked questions
- When is the welcome email sent?
- The moment someone subscribes through your form with mailer.subscribe(). People you add by hand in the dashboard don't get it, so you can import existing contacts without emailing them.
- Does an automation stop if someone unsubscribes?
- Yes. Unsubscribing puts them on the service's do-not-send list, and their automation stops before the next email.
- Can I automate abandoned cart or order follow-up emails?
- Yes. Start an automation from an event: connect Shopify or WooCommerce with a secret link, or report the event from your server with mailer.track(). The Cart reminder and Shipping update starters are ready to use.
- Is email automation free?
- The Free plan includes welcome emails and one automation per service, with up to 1,000 emails a month. Pro adds more automations and emails.
